FAQs

Do you offer Bulk Billing?

Healthcare card holders and pensioners are offered a reduced rate. If your doctor has referred you for vestibular testing only without a medical consultation, this can be bulk billed under Medicare.

We operate a full-service private practice clinic with leading local clinical and administrative staff, along with the latest state-of-the-art diagnostic and clinical technology, which enables us to offer patients a truly world-class clinical experience. This service is not possible to run on a bulk billing model. Therefore, there are reasonable out-of-pocket expenses associated with most consultations and procedures.

Do I need a GP referral?

No, you do not require a GP referral to see a specialist in Australia. However, a valid GP referral allows you to claim a Medicare rebate towards the cost of your consultation. It also provides your specialist with important background information regarding your medical history, symptoms, medications, and previous investigations. We generally recommend speaking with your GP prior to your appointment, as some conditions may be appropriately managed by your regular doctor without the need for specialist care.

Do I receive the Medicare rebate?

If you are a Medicare card holder and want to claim the Medicare rebate, you will require a valid referral from either a GP, another specialist, or an approved allied health professional, which will enable you to claim the Medicare rebate.

What if I don’t have a Medicare card / I am an international patient?

Patients who do not have a Medicare card (i.e. international patients), or patients who do not want to claim the Medicare rebate, do not require a referral to attend our practice and will be billed as per our standard rates.

How long is a referral valid for?

GP referrals are typically valid for 12 months from the date of issue when referred by a General Practitioner (GP), while referrals from another specialist are generally valid for 3 months. To remain eligible for Medicare rebates, your referral must usually be valid on the date of your appointment. If your referral has expired, you may need to obtain an updated referral prior to your consultation.

Can I use a referral made out to a different specialist to attend your clinic?

Yes, in many cases you can. Referrals addressed to another specialist of the same specialty (for example, another neurologist) are generally still valid for Medicare rebate purposes. However, we recommend contacting our rooms prior to your appointment to confirm.

Do I require Private Health Insurance to be a patient?

No, you do not necessarily need to have private health insurance to be a patient. A ‘self-funded’ patient is someone who doesn’t have private health insurance, but chooses to pay directly for their medical care rather than joining the public wait list. Additionally, we do not process private health insurance claims in our clinic, but we can provide you with an invoice that you can then use to process a claim through your insurance provider.

Do you offer telehealth consultations?

Yes, but generally only for follow-up appointments (not the initial appointment) and on a case-by-case basis when clinically appropriate. Please get in touch to learn more.
